Lake Life Sign Post

This was a fun project using Chalk Couture’s transfer Lake Life. I had the slats from a barrel that was falling apart. However, you can use any left over wood or even pieces you have cut at your local home improvement store.

I would suggest that the wood pieces measure atleast 3 3/4” wide and 10 1/2” long so the entire transfer words will fit. My slats were a bit narrow for some of the transfers so a part of the letters were cut off. I didnt mind. I think it added to the rustic and unintentional feel of the sign.

First if the slats are rough and dirty, sand the heck out of them. Rough surfaces will cause the image to have some bleeding. So when you think it’s smooth, sand some more. I used a DeWalt orbital sander. I highly recommend it. I have a belt sander and the orbital sander is WAY easier to manage.

After you are done with sanding, time for some background color. I used alittle bit of white acrylic paint. I used a slightly wet brush and dipped it into the paint and brushed it with the grain. I wanted a white wash look. Feel free to experiment on a scrap piece of wood for the look you want.

Once the paint is dry, time to spray with a poly acrylic clear sealer. I love Krylon Triple Thick clear sealer. This might take overnight to be dry.

Now to the fun!!!!

Using the Lake Life transfer, lay them down, dab paste, squeegee off and then lift transfer.

Colors used: Bumble Bee, Colonial Blue, Lakeshore, Raspberry Sorbet and Cadet

More power tool fun… Drill a hole thru each slat so the wood wouldn’t split when I attached it to the post. Using a screw driver attach the slats to the post in whatever haphazard post appeals to you. I used a 1x1x1 post.

Have fun and DO NOT hesitate to email me with questions…glisteningwaterllc@gmail.com
